Former Kapar MP S Manikavasagam is still determined to contest the PKR Kuala Selangor branch chief post against Selangor Menteri Besar Abdul Khalid Ibrahim despite being suspended from the party.
Appearing at the PKR headquarters today, the current Bukit Melawati state seat coordinator said he is appealing his suspension and asked the party to allow him to contest.
"I am appealing. Allow me to contest. What is the JPP (election committee) afraid of? Let me contest. I will still contest," he said, flanked by his supporters.
Manikavasagam was suspended pending investigations by the party's disciplinary board following comments he made to the mainstream media accusing Khalid of money politics in Kuala Selangor.
But today, Manikavasagam claimed that he never made the allegation.
"I just said that there is corruption. It is true, there is corruption.
"But I did not allege Khalid of money politics. But there was an envelope received by one branch member containing RM500 and asking him to vote for Khalid," he said.
Manikavasagm, popularly known as Mike, said that he would welcome Khalid's move to initiate legal proceedings against him.
"I have not received any legal notice yet. But that is not a problem, he can go ahead and sue me," he said.
However, one man claiming to be a Kuala Selangor branch member later created a scene at the headquarters as he shouted at Khalid when the latter left the media room following a joint press conference with de facto leader Anwar Ibrahim.
"Khalid is a liar! Khalid is a cheater!" the man, who identified himself as Zulkifli Abdullah, bellowed.
Manikavasagam himself stayed put and attempted to seek clarification regarding his plight from Anwar as the latter departed the media room.
But Anwar proceeded to his office after briefly telling Manikavasagam and his supporters that he would look into the matter.
