If Umno votes in favour of the hudud Bill expected to be tabled by Kelantan, MCA and other component parties in BN, made up of non-Muslims, might review their position in the coalition.
This was said by MCA deputy president Wee Ka Siong today at a forum on hudud organised by Sinar Harian at the newspaper's headquarters.
Wee said Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Jamil Khir Baharom did not represent BN when he stated that any state government that plans to implement hudud was welcome to do so.
"He was speaking as an Umno member, not BN. This was not agreed upon in consensus by BN," he asserted.
Wee argued that it is not right to criticise someone as anti-Islam just because they are against hudud.
“There is no correlation between these two,” he said.
“The question is - how are you going to prove a case (under hudud) with the requirement of four witnesses?” Wee asked.
He said that the federal constitution had already provided enough provisions to punish all crimes, and has also taken into account Islamic principles.
