Kuala Lumpur - Ipoh-born Ping Coombes has won Masterchef UK 2014, serving up a winning meal of Malaysian favourites nasi lemak and wonton soup in the final round.
Ping, 33, beat out two other contestants in the final last night and was declared by the judges as the “clear winner.”
“It still hasn’t sunk in yet that I am the champion of MasterChef 2014. Words can’t really describe it,” UK paper the Independent quoted the 2014 champion as saying.
“The last time I felt such emotion was when my daughter was born,” she was further quoted as saying.
According to the competition website, Ping, a full time mom, currently lives in Bath with husband and 18-month-old daughter.
“I was fascinated with different foods, but never really had the chance to experiment in Malaysia as my mum was very protective over her kitchen! I moved to Oxford for university and, with my newfound freedom, I started to cook different foods,” the competition website quoted her as saying.
After the competition, the one-time hotel manager, hopes to open a Malaysian cafe and cookery school.
