Ku Nan targeted in Terengganu crisis blame game

Umno secretary-general Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor should resign for failing to prevent the internal strife in Terengganu, said a party division leader.

Interestingly, Petaling Jaya Utara Umno deputy chief Mohamad Azli Mohemed Saad added that he was speaking in his personal capacity as a representative of Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak.

His comments come in the wake of former Terengganu menteri besar Ahmad Said's criticism that the prime minister was "heartless".

Najib had also come under fire from Perkasa chief Ibrahim Ali for not handling the matter properly.

However, Mohamad Azli told the Umno-owned daily Utusan Malaysia that it is Tengku Adnan, popularly known as Ku Nan, who should be responsible for allowing a simple dispute to get out of hand.

"We know that Ahmad Said asked to postpone a leadership change because his daughter is getting married. Why is this excuse unreasonable?

"This has created a topsy-turvy situation. When such an issue cannot be handled with wisdom, this only makes Umno look bad," he was quoted saying.

Utusan reported that Mohamad Azli could symphatise with Ahmad Said, who stepped down on Monday evening and was replaced immediately by Ahmad Razif Abdul Rahman.

"For me, Ahmad Said's gut reaction was out of anger. Who wouldn't be angry in such a situation,  treated as if he has not served the party all this time," he said.

He added that Umno's top leaders should put aside their egos and meet Ahmad Said to show that Umno can be open-hearted.

Speaking to Malaysiakini after tendering his resignation early yesterday morning, Ahmad Said had criticised Najib for not listening to his request and terming it as a personal matter.
