Langkawi bound flight hit by lightning, no explosion, says MAS

Malaysia Airlines flight MH1438 bound for Langkawi experienced a lightning strike during its flight from Kuala Lumpur, the airlines said today.
In a press statement issued to the media, MAS said the flight landed normally at the Langkawi International Airport and was immediately inspected and subsequently released for service.
It said the aircraft later continued its series of scheduled services without any hiccups upon its arrival back at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport.
The statement added that commercial aircrafts used by MAS are designed to withstand lightning strike and dissipate the electrical charge through the aircraft bonding system safely.
“The safety and comfort of its passengers are of topmost priority to Malaysia Airlines” it said.
Earlier today, a passenger shared his experience of a traumatic ordeal when he heard a light explosion and sparks coming from one of the flight engine.
At the same time, the lights in the plane went off for a few seconds.
The incident which had caused panic among the passengers occurred 10 minutes before the plane touched down at Langkawi International Airport.
