TELUK INTAN Minister Abdul Rahman Dahlan's remark yesterday that people who vote based on looks are "stupid" has incurred the wrath of Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng.
"Is Abdul Rahman attempting to humiliate women?" asked Lim during a visit at a Teluk Intan market this morning.
"I demand he apologise to all the women in Malaysia and Teluk Intan," he said
He added that although the urban wellbeing, housing and local government minister is young he nevertheless shows he has a conservative mind with his remark as though implying wearing lipstick is wrong.
Yesterday during the BN campaign trail Abdul Rahman said voters would be "stupid" to vote for someone simply because she puts on lipstick.
Although he did not name names, it is clear he was telling voters to vote for BN candidate Mah Siew Keong instead of his rival DAP's Dyana Sofia Mohd Daud.
"Maybe just because Mah does not apply lipstick, he does not put on make-up, so they don't vote for him," said the Kota Belud MP during his speech.
'Why ask mother to choose?'
Lim accused Umno of attempting to character-assassinate Dyana, citing another prominent example where Deputy Women, Family and Community Development Minister Azizah Mohd Dun had attacked the candidate's mother Yammy Samat.
Azizah had told Yammy (right) to choose whether to support her daughter or her party Umno.
"A deputy minister asking (Dyana's) mother to choose between Umno and her daughter, how disgusting can you get?
"Why are the people asking all these questions, don't they know a mother will choose her flesh and blood?
"If Umno doesn't know this, they aren't fit to rule the country," he said.
"I don't know what kind of human this is; this is not only inhuman, this is not a human being," said the DAP secretary-general.
Meanwhile, Dyana admitted she felt humiliated by Abdul Rahman's remark and she slammed leaders who want her mother to choose between her and Umno as "unprofessional".
