Muhyiddin should not justify mob culture – P. Waytha Moorthy

Hindraf is appalled and deeply concerned with the statement by Deputy Prime Minister and Umno Deputy President Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin who regarded the threat of Umno youths to burn down the DAP headquarters as a natural reaction.
The recent storming and threat of violence at the Penang legislative assembly is another affront to democracy. Umno is the largest political party and claims to be the oldest political party but the behaviour of its members shows the immature and violent/mob culture of Umno.
The acts of Umno youth members are despicable and should be condemned. It is rather surprising that the No 2 leader of the country is justifying the actions of his party members.
Umno members have committed a crime punishable under the criminal laws but looks like the deputy prime minister is protecting his party's members and sending the wrong signals to the police not to take action. Are Umno members living on “bandit territory”?
Umno has to move with the times. Gone are the days they could threaten with violence and get away with it.
Umno did the same not long ago when they threatened to burn down the Kuala Lumpur and Selangor Chinese Assembly Hall. Former Umno Youth leader Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein had threatened the non-Malays with his keris-brandishing act.
The people are watching. How would the world leaders perceive a deputy prime minister who seems to condone violence?
It is also surprising that the Home Minister had remained silent on such a gross act of criminal intimidation when ordinary citizens could be arrested and charged for the flimsiest accusations.
