GEORGE TOWN - An independent candidate vying for the Bukit Gelugor parliamentary seat today created a scene at a Penang government office in Komtar.
Abu Backer Sidek Mohamad Zan blamed the DAP administration for dragging its feet in addressing the delay in quit rent payment, brought up by one of the Bukit Gelugor constituents.
The Penang-born lawyer, who was assisting one Bukit Gelugor constituent in quit rent payment matter at the Land and Mines Office, vented his frustrations over the slow customer service at the counter.
"The constituent had been made to wait half a day to pay her quit rent on numerous occasions," he said.
Abu Backer lost his cool when his request to see Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng was turned down, and was instead referred to the latter's political secretary, Wong Hon Wai.
Abu Backer's dissatisfaction grew, resulting in him and Wong trading barbs.
The war of words ended when a senior ranking officer from the land office intervened, and trashed the matter out with the candidate in a meeting room.
Abu Backer proposed several ways to upgrade the office's computer system before walking out from the room.
