THIS IS UMNO STANDARD: New T'ganu MB rejects dissolution, insists T'ganu trio NEVER RESIGNED
KUALA TERENGGANU — There is no reason to dissolve the current Terengganu state assembly as the state has not formally received or accepted the resignation letters supposedly submitted by several Umno state lawmakers, newly-minted mentri besar Datuk Ahmad Razif Abdul Rahman said today.
Ahmad Razif said as far as he was concerned, this means that Datuk Ahmad Said, Ghazali Taib and Roslee Daud are still with Umno.
“No, no, the matter (dissolution of state assembly) does not arise,” the Seberang Takir assemblyman told reporters here at a news conference in conjunction with his first day as the state's new MB.
“Officially the three are still Umno members,” he added.
Bukit Besi assemblyman Roslee has “verbally” retracted his resignation from Umno, while rumours have been swirling that the other two assemblymen Ahmad and Ghazali, the representatives for Kijal and Ajil have had second thoughts about leaving Umno.
With Roslee back in BN, the latest score has the ruling coalition tied with the Pakatan Rakyat (PR) opposition at 15 seats each.
Ahmad and Ghazali, who have refrained from announcing their allegiance to either bloc since they went rogue on Tuesday, are considered independent representatives in the Terengganu state legislative assembly.
Ahmad, 57, threw in his resignation letter dated May 12, 2014 to the Umno secretary-general, scant hours after he was forced to step down as Terengganu mentri besar mid-term, and replaced with Ahmad Razif.
Ghazali had quit together with Ahmad on Monday night while Roslee reportedly handed in his letter yesterday morning.
Ahmad, who was reappointed Terengganu mentri besar for a second term on May 9 last year, was forced to step down from office mid-term, reportedly due to the BN’s weakest polls performance in a decade.
The embattled lawmaker claimed he had asked PM Najib to allow him to step down as mentri besar after his daughter’s wedding reception on May 17 but the Umno president reportedly disregarded the request as a “personal matter”, prompting Ahmad to quit the party.
Today, Ahmad Razif confirmed that he will meet with Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak and Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin in the afternoon in Putrajaya.
“As the new mentri besar I would like to bring all BN state assemblymen to seek his (Najib's) counsel,” he said.
But he refused to disclose whether Ahmad, Ghazali or Roslee would also be present at the meeting.
“We are in a stable position and BN will continue to govern,” said Ahmad Razif. - Malay Mail
