PKR's Xavier denies bribery claim

PKR's Kota Raja division chief Dr Xavier Jayakumar has vehemently denied claims that he attempted to bribe the party's election committee, describing it as "character assassination".

"It is hearsay with absolutely no proof. I totally deny that I have been involved in money politics.

"These are people trying to instigate and point fingers (at others) in the election process," he said when contacted.

Jayakumar (right) was referring to a complaint letter by PKR activist Badrul Hisham Shaharin to the party leadership accusingJayakumar of money politics, reported by Malaysiakini today.

Jayakumar said he has instructed his lawyers to take the necessary action over the allegation.

"It is a malicious attack, it's bad politics and bad reporting with no truth to it...time will prove that this is all a malicious attempt," he said.

The letter was directed to PKR president Wan Azizah Wan Ismail and PKR disciplinary committee board chairperson Tan Kee Kwong.

Jayakumar did not earlier respond to Malaysiakini's calls or text messages.

'Don't jump the gun'

It alleged that PKR election appeals board chairperson Abd Malek Hussin had rejected a bribe from Jayakumar and his "boss".

Abd Malek (left) declined to comment when contacted.

Meanwhile, Jayakumar pointed out the party has received over 200 complaint letters relating to PKR's ongoing party election.

He said it was best for people to allow the disciplinary board to decide on the complaints.

"It is up to the party to investigate... All those concerned will be called to be given a fair hearing.

"So before any fair hearing, why are people jumping to conclusion and scandalising other people's name? This is mischievous," he said.
