DAP's Dyana Sofya Mohd Daud has today rebutted allegations made by Umno MP Noh Omar that she had ever called for the Royal Malay Regiment (RAMD) to be disbanded during her Teluk Intan by-election campaign last month.
Dyana, said that Noh, also the Umno Selangor chief, was either duped by fake Facebook accounts with such allegations or he was trying to pull a fast one on the Lower House.
"I never said anything about the RAMD. I also never issued any statement (on such a the proposal)," she said in a press conference today, accompanied by DAP Bukit Mertajam MP Steven Sim Chee Keong.
Noh caused an uproar in Parliament yesterday when he tried to drag Dyana's name into an argument about government's alleged inaction over uncouth Umno Youth members who stormed the Penang state assembly and DAP offices.
Noh Omar
The Tanjung Karang MP had questioned why Dyana got away with her call to disband the royal regiment because it was for Malays only, as this violated Article 8 of the Federal Constitution, which enshrined equal rights for all Malaysians.
In her rebuttal, Dyana urged Noh to verify his information before repeating it.
Dyana said that Noh may have been fooled by statements made in a fake Facebook page set up in her name, which has nearly 5,000 followers.
"I did not make statements like that," she said again, holding up proof of her legitimate Facebook page and the false one.
Dyana added that she intends to report to the police and the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) regarding the faked Facebook account. -Malaysiakini
