52 illegals detained in Lahad Datu

Detainees handed over to the Immigration Department and NRD for screening and subsequent deportation.
PATI2LAHAD DATU: Fifty-two individuals believed to be illegal immigrants were detained in a special integrated operation jointly carried out by the Eastern Sabah Security Command (ESSCom) and Lahad Datu district enforcement division here today.
State Secretary Sukarti Wakiman said the operation which started at 9.30am yesterday was participated by various state and federal agencies and was aimed at cleaning up the Lahad Datu town centre of illegal immigrants.
“All of them, 42 men and 10 women, were taken to Dewan Tun Mustapha Lahad Datu and handed over to the Immigration Department and National Registration Department for screening and subsequent deportation,” he said in a statement here.
Also monitoring the integrated operation was ESSCom deputy commander Brig Gen Subari Tomo, ESSCom Special Operations Force chief of staff SAC Mohammad Ismail and Lahad Datu district officer, Iman Ali.
Four days ago, a similar operation was launched in the same region that saw 16 illegals being taken into custody.
The operations against illegal immigrants was one of the drastic measures taken by the government following the Royal Commission of Inquiry report on illegal immigrants in Sabah presented at the meeting of the Sabah State Security Committee (JKKN) recently chaired by Sabah Chief Minister Datuk Seri Musa Aman.
