Batu Kawan Umno's Khairuddin says the opposition leader has no moral standing to attack Daim.
PETALING JAYA: Anwar Ibrahim lacks the moral qualification to accuse former finance minister Daim Zainuddin of corruption, according to Khairuddin Abu Hassan..
“Anwar is the father of corruption,” he said when commenting on the opposition leader’s offer to assist the MACC in investigations against Daim.
Khairuddin recalled Anwar’s claims in 1998 that he had “boxes” of evidence against Daim and asked, “Where are those boxes now?”
He alleged that Anwar had no credibility as a political leader.
Speaking to FMT, the vice-chairman of Batu Kawan Umno accused Anwar’s PKR of collaborating with the mainstream media in trying to distract the public’s attention from the issue of 1MDB’s management of its funds. The attacks on Daim were part of this agenda, he said.
He said Johan Jaafar, the chairman of Media Prima, must explain why he was providing Anwar and PKR vice-president Shamsul Iskandar Mohd Akin with the platform for attacking Daim.
Khairuddin also questioned the intelligence of “a handful of Umno members” who have accused him of making false accusations against 1MDB.
He identified Batu Kawan Umno Youth leader Mohd Hilmie Ibrahim as one of those Umno members.
“Hilmie doesn’t understand the legal process,” he said. “He has dismissed my police and MACC reports as false even before investigations have started. Has he read the evidence I have given to the police and MACC?”
He said he intended to take legal action against Hilmie for attempting to smear his good name and reputation. “Hilmie should instead be targeting Anwar and Shamsul Iskandar for attacking Daim,” he said. “It is clear that his intentions are bad.”
