KUALA LUMPUR - Christians nationwide may use “Allah” all they want but only if they convert to Islam, the local chapter of hardline Islamist group Hizbut Tahrir said yesterday after the Catholic Church exhausted all legal avenues in its bid to use the word for its newsweekly.
The group also warned Muslims to not celebrate the “victory” blindly, claiming that the real issue is to be debated rationally and intellectually is the “truth” of the religion itself.
“Actually, the space of Christians to use the word ‘Allah’ was never closed. It is always open, indeed it is open wide. They themselves are the ones who close the space.
“The way is easy, for them to convert to Islam, the only true religion of ‘Allah’,” said an article on Hizbut Tahrir Malaysia’s website.
The group urged Christians to study Islam sincerely, pray to God for guidance, and subsequently convert.
It also said that to enter Islam is easy, and the conversion process itself allows and mandates Christians to say the word “Allah”, in reference to the Shahada: where Muslims declare their belief of Allah’s oneness, and Muhammad as His prophet.
“By uttering this phrase, you will become a Muslims and do not need the permission of the courts to use the word Allah,” it suggested.
On Wednesday, the Federal Court had again rejected the Catholic Church’s bid for the apex court to hear its appeal on its constitutional right to use the word “Allah”, marking an end to remaining legal avenues in the case. - Malay Mail
