Another Razak brother embroiled in Donation-gate

YOURSAY | 'Why take instructions from Umno chief ... and why get bank staff to do the work?'
Slumdog: CIMB chairperson Nazir Abdul Razak has been caught keeping silent about receiving US$7 million (RM27.5 million) from his brother, Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak. I am certain he would have remained silent had The Wall Street Journal not disclosed it.
And for the next chapter in this sorry saga, how is Najib going to defend giving his son RM275,000?
When you think there are no more skeletons to be found, another one is discovered, two in this case.
SusahKes: Nazir, you say that you received US$7 million from your brother. But, my question is, was it to your personal account? Or was it into an Umno-related account?
Because, if it was into your personal account, why must you - presumably a non-Umno member - receive funds for party/political purposes?
And why must you take instructions from the Umno president to disburse the money to party members? I'd like to know how it was done, and how you got the bank staff to do the work?
Oh Ya?: So the chairperson of CIMB and some of his staff had been, and some may still are, carrying out political activities. How could this be allowed under the Financial Services Act 2013?
Can Bank Negara governor Zeti Akhtar Aziz please clarify this before she retires?
Lonely MidnightSun: “The entire amount was paid out in cash to various recipients according to the instructions of the party president (Najib) and the account was closed with a zero balance,” said Nazir.
So Nazir did not benefit anything from it.
The Analyser: If someone had deposited US$7 million into my account, I would make sure I knew where it came from. These people are peas in a pod.
Dont Just Talk: Didn't someone just say "never again" on 1MDB, and quietly a sum of US$7 million is now revealed to have been deposited into CIMB's accounts for disbursement to various BN parties for the 13th GE?
Is it any wonder why Umno Baru and BN leaders are defending the debt-ridden 1MDB financial scandal with their lives?
What has Minister in Prime Minister's Department Azalina Othman, the self-appointed spokeswoman for Umno Baru, got to say on the matter?
Communications and Multimedia Minister Salleh Said Keruak will probably just say WSJ is talking nonsense again.
As for MCA and Gerakan leaders, the US$7 million is RM28 million at the present exchange rate, and when Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng purchased a 30-year-old old bungalow at Pinhorn for RM2.8 million, all of you cried "corruption".
Donplaypuks: And it was Nazir who said Zeti was a "global banking icon".
He, an international banker, received US$7 million from his brother PM Najib, and never
asked where all the money came from? What a whopper!
Anonymous 2401341456972027: Najib can sue the WSJ but he wouldn't stand a chance to win simply because of the First Amendment of the US Constitution.
According to one website - "In the landmark 1964 case of New York Times v Sullivan, the US Supreme Court held that certain defamatory statements were protected by the First Amendment.
“The case involved a newspaper article that said unflattering things about a public figure, a politician. The court pointed to ‘a profound national commitment to the principle that debate on public issues should be uninhibited, robust, and wide-open.’
“The court acknowledged that in public discussions - especially about public figures like politicians - mistakes can be made. If those mistakes are ‘honestly made’, the court said, they should be protected from defamation actions.
“The court made a rule that public officials could sue for statements made about their public conduct only if the statements were made with ‘actual malice’.
Mob1900: Why does Putrajaya pick and select only one source of the funds to explain, claiming Australia Broadcasting Corporation (ABC) and WSJ has confirmed one of the sources of 'donations' came from Saudi Arabia, when there are so many sources of unexplained money coming into his personal accounts?
What about SRC International, Blackstone Asia Real Estate Partners, Tanore Finance Corp, etc.?
Ex-PJ: All are happy to support Najib. How not to? It is not often that one gets millions for doing nothing.
So in all likelihood, Najib will stay on, donations will continue and GST will be increased to fund the donations. -Mkini
