KL police chief Amar Singh says such false news, using racial issues, was believed to be deliberately spread on social media to cause chaos.
KUALA LUMPUR: Police have denied rumours in the social media claiming that there will be fights in the federal capital.
Kuala Lumpur police chief Amar Singh Ishar Singh said police would take action against any individual spreading false information and inciting the people in the social media to scare the general public.
“Anyone spreading false news and inciting other people to believe the rumours is committing an offence under the country’s laws.
“Police are monitoring the social media websites and have adequate strength to tackle the threat,” he said in a statement, here today.
He said the false news was believed to have been deliberately spread by using racial issues as the grounds to cause chaos.
