Cops summon two MPs over 'free Rafizi' march

The police have summoned two DAP lawmakers for questioning with regard to the protest march by Pakatan Harapan MPs last week.
Both Rasah MP Teo Kok Seong and Bukit Bintang MP Fong Kui Lun told Malaysiakini that they have been asked to provide their statements at the Sentul district police headquarters on Thursday.
"The investigating officer informed me about the matter this morning.
"He said the police are probing the case under the Peaceful Assembly Act 2012. Currently only Fong and I have been called in for questioning," said Teo (photo).
According to him, he was told that more parliamentarians would be summoned over the march.
"I am surprised the police are calling us. The situation was calm on that day. The police should be more focussed on combatting crime.
"We are asking inspector-general of police Khalid Abu Bakar to respect the sovereignty of parliament," he said.
Teo also noted how Dewan Rakyat speaker Pandikar Amin Mulia said the police should have informed him before arresting PKR MP Rafizi Ramli at the parliament gates.
Meanwhile, Fong (photo) said he would cooperate with the police on the matter.
The march from Parliament to the Bukit Aman police headquarters was held to demand the release of Rafizi.
Malaysiakini has contacted Sentul district police chief R Munusamy and is awaiting his response.
Last Tuesday, Rafizi was arrested under Section 8 of the Official Secrets Act (OSA) after revealing classified documents which he claimed showed a link between Lembaga Tabung Angkatan Tentera (LTAT) and 1MDB.
Subsequently, he was slapped with two charges under OSA and a separate charge for criminal defamation.
Rafizi has since been released on bail. -Mkini
