'Focus on ousting Najib, not on his successor'

It's more important to is ensure current premier Najib Abdul Razak resigns from his post rather than pondering on his replacement, said PKR information chief Syed Ibrahim Syed Noh.
He explained that Pakatan Harapan’s main agenda is to save the country before it gets ‘destroyed’ under the Najib administration.
“Basically, what’s important now is that we ensure Najib resigns as prime minister. The question of who will be the prime minister after him should not be the main topic of discussion.
To save our country from getting worse, we must be ready to make reforms in the country’s administration,” Syed Ibrahim told Malaysiakini.
He was responding to former law minister Zaid Ibrahim’s suggestion that Deputy Prime Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi be given the chance to take over the country’s leadership.
Meanwhile, Parti Amanah Negara (Amanah) deputy president Salahuddin Ayub said Zaid’s suggestion was merely that – a personal opinion.
“What’s important are the lessons behind what has happened in the country. There needs to be reforms regarding the country’s institutions. If not, whoever becomes prime minister will repeat the same mistakes,” he stressed.
'Hold GE soonest'
However DAP's vice-chairperson M Kulasegaran is of the opinion that no one from Umno-BN is fit to become the prime minister as they are responsible for the 1MDB scandal.
He instead wants a general election to be held as soon as possible to choose a suitable candidate for the prime minister’s post.
“Our political system stipulates that the party with the majority of seats will choose the prime minister. BN has the most number of seats so they have the right to choose the prime minister.
“But with the 1MDB scandal, all BN leaders are implicated. So what’s best now is to hold a general election to solve the issue,” said the Ipoh Barat MP.
Najib has faced attacks from various quarters due to the 1MDB scandal as well as the RM2.6 billion ‘donation’ issue. He has however consistently denied any wrongdoing. -Mkini
