'Hold Najib responsible for 1MDB problems'

Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak should be held responsible for whatever problems and misappropriation that arose in 1MDB, said Oopposition Leader Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail.

She said this was in accordance with article 117 of 1MDB's memorandum and article (M&A) that states that the prime minister must give his written approval for any dealing, she said.

"The National Audit Department had verified that M&A has given absolute power to the prime minister.

"Thus, it is clear that Najib should be held responsible for whatever problems, misappropriations and abuse of power arising from 1MDB," she told a press conference after chairing the Pakatan Harapan's presidential council in Petaling Jaya today.

The opposition alliance had discussed the Public Accounts Committee's (PAC) report on 1MDB in the meeting today.

"After studying the PAC's report and Hansard (of the PAC's proceedings on 1MDB), Harapan is convinced that PAC never discussed and no decision was made to clear Najib of any wrongdoing.”

She urged the police or Malaysia Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) to act on the 1MDB's ex-CEO Shahrol Halmi and other parties based on the findings of the PAC's report.

She also urged the authorities to track down the unaccounted US$7 billion of 1MDB's cash flow and assets overseas.

Meanwhile, DAP publicity secretary Tony Pua, who was also present, accused 1MDB of obstructing the investigation conducted by PAC.

He was referring to the lack of bank statements and other documents on 1MDB's US$7 billion (about RM28 billion) overseas cash flows and assets.

He also challenged PAC chief Hasan Arifin to show him the PAC report and Hansard that cleared Najib (of wrongdoing) as claimed by the BN Rompin MP.

"That's why I challenged the chairman to find me the section of the report's Hansard that said we discussed at length and we cleared Najib.
