IGP: Stop making seditious remarks on Zakir Naik lecture

Inspector-general of police Khalid Abu Bakar has warned all quarters against making provocative statements regarding controversial Muslim scholar Zakir Naik.
He said such remarks and arguments could threaten religious harmony in the nation and the police would not hesitate to act.
The police chief also reiterated that his decision is final that the forum featuring the scholar titled 'Similarities between Islam and Hinduism' scheduled to be held in Malacca must be cancelled.
"This issue has generated a lot of debate, and I have noticed that some statements whether in the social media or the press are seditious and provocative in nature.
"We would not hesitate to act against those who cross the line," he told Malaysiakini.
Khalid said while Islam is the official religion of the federation, the social contract must be respected and the sentiments of people of other faiths should also be safeguarded.
Therefore, he cautioned all quarters not to hurl insults or make demeaning remarks regarding this issue.
"As stated in my twitter posting earlier. My decision is final. The forum must be cancelled," he stressed.
Earlier, Khalid tweeted that police have summoned the organisers and ordered them to cancel the forum.
"In our view, when the preacher discusses the topic (of) similarities between Hinduism and Islam. It (the discussion) cannot stray away from touching on the weakness of one religion," he said.
According to the forum's promotional poster, the Indian-born scholar was scheduled to deliver the talk at Universiti Teknikal Malaysia campus in Malacca on April 17.
MIC and several Indian-based NGOs yesterday lodged police reports against Zakir's scheduled lecture, protesting against his alleged anti-Hindu remarks in the past. -Mkini
