Jamil Khir should pin blame on himself, not whistleblowers

YOURSAY | ‘Indeed, times are hard. Who wants to donate money for you to holiday in Paris?’
Baiyuensheng: These 32,934 donors cancelling their contributions to the Malaysian Islamic Economic Development Foundation (Yapeim) is a sign that the next general election (GE) tsunami will be from the Malay community.
Umno’s days are numbered and the days of better governance are coming.
Notsoshiningarmour: Minister in the PM’s Department Jamil Khir Baharom, stop giving lame excuses.
As long as you are with the government, you are tainted as far as the 32,934 Muslims who have decided to stop contributing to the fund. You should now reflect and ask yourself why.
The 32,934 already know why. Millions of other Malaysians know why. But you and the government refuse to acknowledge that your integrity is severely lacking.
Wg321: Jamil should not be given a free lunch. This is not fair to Yapeim contributors.
If indeed he went on a golfing and shopping trip to US using funds from Yapiem’s subsidiary Pemankin totaling RM400,000 which were meant for orphans, he must return the money to Yapiem’s subsidiary Pemankin.
Kee Thuan Chye: National Oversight and Whistleblowers (NOW) director Akmal Nasir did a great job then. Well done. This is what whistleblowing is supposed to achieve.
Root out individuals and organisations that are engaged in dubious activity, expose abuse of funds, misappropriation, etc. Such whistleblowers should be lauded and protected by the law.
Anonymous_1408265047: Perhaps the good minister should put the blame where it belongs. Pointing out that money for charitable purposes being used for golfing trips overseas is not slander.
It is fairly clear that the good minister is an admirer of a certain mufti, because he certainly does not use logic or his intellect in his ministerial explanations.
However, it would be greatly beneficial for all if he tried a little honesty.
Kbe: Hey, Jamil, you forgot to mention Yapeim also has a golf simulator, besides RM106,870.80 in cash.
NNFC: Malaysians are much smarter now and will avoid donating anything to such organisations. More scrutiny is required to get rid of the leeches and parasites of our country.
Wira: One must be a fool to contribute to a suspected scam. However, one must be a moron to expect people to continue to contribute to a scam the cover of which has been blown wide open.
I wonder if Yapeim will ever be investigated for alleged mismanagement?
Negarawan: "Jamil, who is the minister in charge of Islamic affairs, allegedly went on a golfing and shopping trip in the US using funds from Yapeim's subsidiary Yayasan Pembangunan Anak Yatim/Miskin (Pemangkin), totalling more than RM400,000, which were meant for orphans."
Again what is the Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM) and Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) doing about this? Can Umno ministers act with impunity?
Awakened: Yapeim donors are doing the right things by stopping their contributions to the fund, which is intended for charity.
Years ago, the National Kidney Foundation (NKF) contributors in Singapore did the same thing when the CEO was accused of having a huge salary and flew first class on the funds donated by hundreds of thousands of donors.
Abdul Kadir Jasin: It’s because you went to Paris to hold ‘kursus kahwin’ (marriage course). And because you went abroad to play golf.
It's safer and better for Muslims to ‘sadakah’ (make charitable contributions) directly. No management cost and you won't cheat yourself. Wallahualam.
Drngsc: Indeed, times are hard. Who wants to donate money for you to holiday in Paris and play golf all over the globe?
Anonymous #20999887: So sorry, YB, people in Malaysia can so easily get negative perceptions.
Better do more religious teaching to shape them into not believing anything anyone says - except the words of leaders like you.
Rupert16: One has to be stupid enough to allow the foxes in Umno to take care of their chickens.
As for the foxes in Umno, they can learn from their Bugis fox with respect to getting massive ‘donations’ from the Arabs, and with no strings attached.
Pahatian: PM Najib Razak’s unused RM2 billion should not have been returned to the donor.
He should give part or all of it to Yapiem and their problems will be solved, and it won't be in dire straits anymore. -Mkini
