Mahathir will speak at forum on 1MDB-PAC, says Kit Siang

Former prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad will be among the speakers at a public forum titled “PAC 1MDB Report: Najib Complicit or Innocent?” in Shah Alam on Thursday night.
DAP veteran Lim Kit Siang said in a statement today the forum would go on as planned at the IDCC Shah Alam, following the tabling of the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) report in Parliament on April 7.
"If (PAC chairperson) Hasan Arifin, (former 1MDB chief executive) Shahrol Azral Ibrahim Halmi or even (tycoon) Jho Low are prepared to appear at the Shah Alam forum on Thursday, they are most welcome," Lim said.
Aside from Mahathir, he said, the other speakers would be Petaling Jaya Utara MP Tony Pua, PKR vice-president Rafizi Ramli, Amanah communications director Khalid Samad and anti-corruption watchdog C4 executive director Cynthia Gabriel.
Lim has invited Hasan to attend the forum and debate on whether the findings of the report had truly absolved Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak on allegations of financial scandals linked to state-owned fund 1MDB.
He and critics of 1MDB have also raised numerous questions over the findings of the PAC report which Najib, along with other BN leaders, had used as their main defence against allegations of abuse of power and financial mismanagement.
PAC report only 'tip of the iceberg'
Among others, Lim referred to the latest news report quoting a statement from Abu Dhabi’s state-owned International Petroleum Investment Company (IPIC) to the London Stock Exchange.
"The London development is the latest proof that the PAC report on the 1MDB scandal is only the 'tip of an iceberg' and that it is the first important step to open up the intricacies, complexities and enormities of the scandal, and not the final and definitive word to bring closure," he said.
IPIC had reportedly informed the London Stock Exchange that neither it nor its unit Aabar Investments PJS have any link with the British Virgin Islands-incorporated firm named in the PAC report. -Mkini
