PETALING JAYA: A male patient, believed to be a Malaysian, was captured on video suffering a painful extraction as doctors and nurses struggled to keep him calm as they extracted a live fish lodged in his throat.
In a news report in UK’s Daily Mail, a harrowing video of the gruesome extraction has been uploaded, showing how the live, and now bloodied, fish was extracted from the patient’s throat.
Also heard in the background, is the clearly shocked expressions of the doctor as he realises what he is dealing with.
“Oh my God!” the doctor exclaims.
“The fish is fighting back”, says another in the background, sounding incredulous.
“Control yourself… don’t fight back, don’t fight back,” the patient is told firmly as the doctor forcefully grips the tip of the wriggling fish with his forceps.
‘Because the fish is still alive… and it keeps on injuring all the internal…,” a male voice is heard saying, trailing off.
The groaning patient in the meantime is advised to look straight ahead and keep his mouth open despite the pain, so the fish can be manoeuvred out.
“It’s alive still”, someone exclaims as the fish is finally extracted, coated in blood, and placed on the white bedsheet.
With the camera zooming in on the fish, someone is heard explaining that the sharp thorn-like features on the fish’s head had embedded itself in the patient’s throat linings, causing him severe pain.
A woman, likely a nurse is heard asking the male patient how he came to have swallowed a live fish, although the patient too distraught to answer, remains silent.
As the video ends at this point, that pertinent question never gets answered.
