PKR vice-president Nurul Izzah Anwar has described both Dr Mahathir Mohamad and Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak as "dictators".
Therefore, she said, the pair should not decide the future of the nation.
On the contrary, the Lembah Pantai MP stressed that it is the people who must determine who is qualified to lead Malaysia.
Nurul was responding to Mahathir who said that her father, jailed former opposition leader Anwar Ibrahim, is too old to be the next prime minister.
"To me, this issue is irrelevant because we do not want a former dictator or current dictator to determine the future course of Malaysia.
"So I urge the people to be more active, to ensure their voices are represented in various forums, including the Citizens' Declaration to save Malaysia," she told a press conference in Petaling Jaya.
In an interview with The Australian earlier this week, Mahathir also repeated his infamous revulsion for his former deputy premier concerning the latter’s alleged “immoral” issues.
Meanwhile, Nurul said her father was a symbol amidst the country’s flawed political system and judiciary.
In fact, if all quarters let Mahathir (photo) give his revenge-laden remarks, the agenda to save Malaysia would only fail, she said.
“What I want is commitment in implementing reforms. I stand firm and I hope Malaysians will be committed because we are talking about saving the country.
“If you let these people voice their opinions which are full of revenge, you will fail in terms of turning Malaysia into a better nation,” she said.
Maintain agenda of institutional reforms
Nurul was also asked to comment on former deputy premier Muhyiddin Yassin who said that he has no qualms about his successor Ahmad Zahid Hamidi replacing Najib as premier.
The lawmaker however pointed out if the system is still the same then the replacement will not be able to change the existing debaucheries.
“What’s the difference if Zahid become prime minister? I think what we want is not only to replace the premier but the system which we inherited from Mahathir.
“Therefore, I will continue to maintain the agenda of institutional reforms in representing my voice,” she said. -Mkini
