Organisers of the upcoming lectures featuring controversial Muslim preacher Dr Zakir Naik have offered to sponsor Penang Deputy Chief Minister II P Ramasamy's flight ticket to Kuala Lumpur this Saturday.
Firdaus Wong, representing one of the 10 NGOs involved in the programme, said the offer is also extended to Ramasamy's wife.
"We really hope that he would agree to come. We are willing to sponsor him and his wife, and also give them priority to ask any questions they may have," Firdaus said at a press conference after meeting with Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Shahidan Kassim at his office in Kuala Lumpur today.
The lecture titled 'Is Quran God's Word' will be held at Stadium Hoki Bukit Jalil on April 16.
When contacted, Ramasamy thanked the organisers for their invitation but apologised as he already have prior commitments.
"I thank the organisers but I will also not be able to attend.
"Also maybe it is best to let things cool down first," he said.
Ramasamy’s service centre was firebombed earlier today after he had branded Zakir a "satan" in a now-deleted Facebook post for the latter’s controversial religious remarks.
