Malay rights pressure group Perkasa today called for a Royal Commision of Inquiry on 1MDB, to clear doubts raised over the Public Accounts Committee report.
“When PAC report on 1MDB was released, the rakyat was optimistic and eager to read all about it. Then, there were allegations of the PAC report’s findings being edited.
“Where are the authorities’ integrity when it comes to managing matters like this?
"So, to really get to the bottom of this, we should call for a royal commission on inquiry,” Perkasa's integrity, anti-corruption and abuse of power bureau chief Azrul Akmal Saharuddin said in a press statement today.
Azrul also touched on the proper implementation of the Official Secrets Act 1972 (OSA), a statute that prohibits the dissemination of information classified as official secret.
“Information that concerns the public interest such as the auditor-general’s report on 1MDB should not be classified under OSA.
However, if the information in question involves national security, then it should be under OSA,” the Perkasa leader added.
In addition, Azrul also announced that Perkasa is planning to launch an anti-corruption campaign in July, and it will involve the collaboration of several other NGOs. -Mkini
