Pandan MP Rafizi Ramli wants to know how much longer inspector-general of police Khalid Abu Bakar will take before ordering the arrest of 1MDB chief executive Arul Kanda Kandasamy for allegedly misappropriating the firm's funds.
This is in regard to his claim that 1MDB has misappropriated RM288 million meant as payment to the Lembaga Tabung Angkatan Tentera (LTAT), by paying of its own debts.
Rafizi, who lodged a police report on the matter on April 30, claimed he had gotten the information from classified documents for which he had been charged for breaching the Official Secrets Act (OSA).
"The National Audit Department has confirmed that the document I exposed was legitimate, therefore the information contained within is also accurate.
"This confirms that Arul Kanda and the senior management of 1MDB had made the RM288 million payment without informing the board of directors first, and is a solid basis to start investigations against them," Rafizi said in a statement today.
He is baffled why no action has been taken against Arul Kanda after almost two weeks, whereas he himself was arrested just seven hours after the audit department lodged a police report against him for leaking the OSA documents.
The PKR vice-president said he will wait until April 15 to see if police will take action against Arul Kanda before taking up other measures against the 1MDB boss.
Rafizi had previously claimed that the alleged RM288 million misappropriation was part of evidence that 1MDB's financial woes had caused LTAT to be unable to pay gratuity to veterans.
LTAT and 1MDB have denied his claims.
Rafizi has since been slapped with two charges under the OSA and one charge under the Penal Code for criminal defamation. - M'kini
