Repay gov't by supporting BN candidates, Zahid tells urban voters

S'WAK POLLS Deputy Prime Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi today called on the urban voters in Sarawak to consider repaying the government by supporting the BN candidates.
He said they receive better services and allocations compared to other areas, and as such, should change their mindset.
"No country in the world has been able to transform their old and abandoned, or under-utilised buildings into centres which can provide services to the people, and by putting various government agencies under one roof.
"This is done so that people need not travel from one place to another for the services and the time spent will be shortened," he said at the launching of Urban Transformation Centre (UTC) in Sibu today.
"This is done for the people... what kind of people? Those who appreciate the government's contribution and repay the government.
"UTC is located in the urban areas, thus the urban community that receives the best services, gets the biggest budget and allocations, should consider repaying in the form of support.
"This is the moment for us to translate our support and appreciation for all the efforts made by the government, by supporting candidates who deserve the best," he added.
He urged the people to support the three BN direct candidates in Sibu – Wong Soon Koh, Tiong Thai King and Janet Lau – who attended the event.
"You need to support these leaders," he said, adding that the urban commnunity needs to change its attitude and mentality.
It is unfair for the government to continue to serve them when they are not with the government, Zahid added.
He noted that in past general and state elections, the support of the urban voters who enjoyed better facilites than the rural areas, was not very encouraging.
UTC, which is under the Finance Ministry, was the brainchild of former prime minister the late Abdul Razak Hussein, the father of Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak.
Fourteen agencies were relocated to the Sibu UTC.
"A total of 11.4 million people have received services in the 14 UTC nationwide," said Zahid. Sarawak has three UTC.
To mark today's event, about 20 lucky draw prizes were given away, including LED television, oven, refrigerator, microwave, and hampers. -Mkini
