Sarawakians, take their goodies but vote wisely

YOURSAY | ‘The difference between stupid and smart voters: both take goodies ... but one actually votes for them.’
Lamborghini: The very same people who happily receive the gifts during election period are also the same people who would complain loudly about lack of care, lack of infrastructure, lack of freedom of religion, their land being taken, etc.
Rural folks badly need to have proper voter education and have their narrow understanding broadened and their short-term thinking enlightened. That is why Sarawak and Sabah will continue to be "fixed" by money and goodies and become "fixed deposit" of BN.
Sarawakians, don't let your future be determined by cash and goodies.
Giving out goodies before and during election period is nothing less than outright bribery and enticement. Even a child knows this. Why is this not an offence when it is something so morally wrong?
Seadragon: It's so, so sad. People are happy to receive a couple of hundred every five years and meanwhile these politicians screw the country the rest of the years to line their own pockets.
Sabahan: Poorly educated voters will be swayed by election bribes. Only when enough become educated can this third world vote-buying end.
Jaded: The sad reality is these people don't realise the money they are getting is stolen from them and only a minute fraction is given back to them during elections.
This is nothing new, and unless the opposition can break this cycle, the simpletons will continue to vote and maintain the current cycle of corruption. We hear this every election, and this time around is no different.
It actually works in the favour of the ruling party that the electorate stays ignorant. Sad, yes, but surprising, no.
Appum: That is why Adenan brought in six Chinese tycoons to be candidates. And these tycoons are not stupid: once in, they make sure with the political power, position and influence they have, that they get back what they put in 1,000-fold.
That is the game Adenan and the tycoons are playing. So you can see for yourself that the Sarawakians are admitting here they can be bought with a bit of cash, some rewards and sweet promises.
Isn't this money politics? Sarawak will be forever BN's fixed deposit.
Maplesyrup: These are the real traitors to the country, who vote based on goodies rather than using their vote to bring in a better government. In the long run, they will be the losers as they already are.
Hmmmmmmmm: We cannot blame those people for taking money and feeling obliged to vote for these politicians. These are simple, usually uneducated people.
The people who should be blamed for all these should be the Election Commission. They are tasked to protect the simple people from being exploited by the unscrupulous people but are instead turning a blind eye, if not actually participating in it.
Anonymous 386261435678843: Take whatever is given to you as that is your money. But when it comes to the ballot box, vote out the corrupt party and bring in a new government.
Next time, when you vote, you will have a better choice and can gain more from both sides.
Wira: Here’s the difference between stupid and smart voters: both take goodies from the corrupt, but one actually votes for them.
Sinan Belawan: The close relationship between business and politicians is bad for citizens. Businesses can influence public policies and compromise the protection of workers and consumers through weak labour/consumer laws.
Many workers in the timber industry have died or maimed for life through the course of their work, without any compensation.
Speaking Sense: From day one, I have always said it is all a hypocritical show with one big agenda of deceiving the Dayaks and Chinese to be used as pawns to continue the rule of the minority over the majority in Sarawak.
Sadly, many so-called Dayak and Chinese leaders have been sucked into this shadow play and history will show how they have betrayed their own communities by continuing to prop up a corrupt, unjust, incompetent, cronyistic, oppressive, tyrannical and abusive BN.
JomUbahUbah: This show the rich people control the chief minister of Sarawak and the poor Dayaks will forever be marginalised.
Anonymous 2401191456463140: Yes, Pelawan BN direct candidate Janet Lau, you have every right to stand as candidate in the state polls. And we too have the right to campaign against you.
RCZ: If Sarawakians can't see that businessmen have ingrained themselves into political control and positions of power to gain more personal wealth, then Sarawakians are sleeping or brain dead or stupid. I think all three. Sarawakians, wake up.
SusahKes: Gee, I thought I was reading about Hillary Clinton and her campaign in the US presidential elections. Just look how much Wall Street bankrolls her. -Mkini
