Dr M: PAS is a confused party

Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) chairman Dr Mahathir Mohamad said his party would only make a decision on whether to work with PAS in the coming election when the latter is "unconfused".

PAS is asking other opposition parties to choose to work with either them or Amanah in the next general election, he noted.

"On one hand, they said PAS is the opposition party and on the other hand, they kissed each other (with Umno)." 

He pointed out that PAS also remained in the Selangor government, which consisted of DAP and Amanah.

"These are very confused people, I have to wait until they are unconfused," he said at a press conference held after the convention.

"We are waiting for them (to decide), then we will finalise our stand - whether they want to be with themselves, or with Umno or with us, the opposition, which of course includes Amanah and DAP," he said.

PAS secretary-general Takiyuddin Hassan had said PAS would not have ties with Bersatu if the party becomes a member of Pakatan Harapan.

“PAS and Bersatu leaders have met and exchanged views.

“We can be together with them if they abide by our conditions, which among others, is that we have no relationship whatsoever with Amanah and DAP,” he was quoted as saying by Sinar Harian.

Meanwhile, PKR vice-president Nurul Izzah Anwar, who attended the convention, reiterated such ultimatum would not help the situation.

"We put in efforts to reform the country and replace Najib with a better leadership. Thus, issuing such ultimatums would not help the rakyat. We should focus on our commitment to save the country," she said.

"I remind (them) again, please reprioritise," she said.

DAP stalwart Lim Kit Siang has slammed Umno over a caricature, depicting billionaire George Soros as masterminding and controlling the local opposition.

He said the massive slander campaign began after the Umno annual general election.

"This showed how low they are willing to stoop, how desperate and how dirty they can be," he said at the press conference earlier today.

This is meant to propagate hatred, he said.

The caricature also featured Lim as a sub-agent of Soros, controlling a few key figures of the opposition, including Mahathir.- Mkini
