Former inspector-general of police Musa Hassan has threatened to sue blogger Raja Petra Kamaruddin for defamation if he does not retract his allegation that the ex-top cop was part of a plot to jail Anwar Ibrahim.
"I feel this is unprincipled slander that is not factual.
"The case has been tried in court, and there has been no legal challenge on allegations of (Anwar being) fixed," he told a press conference in Petaling Jaya today.
Musa said if Raja Petra did not apologise and retract the offending articles, he would lodge a police report for criminal defamation and file a lawsuit against the blogger.
If his conditions are met, the former IGP said he would forgive Raja Petra.
Asked how he would bring the blogger - who is currently living in exile in the UK - to court, Musa said he would have to discuss this with his lawyers.
An article on Raja Petra's blog Malaysia Today claimed that Dr Mahathir Mohamad had used former attorney-general Abdul Gani Patail and Musa to put Anwar behind bars in the Sodomy II case.
Anwar was charged for sodomy a second time in 2008, when Abdullah Ahmad Badawi was the prime minister.
Musa said he had not discussed his decision to take action against Raja Petra with Gani.
Meanwhile, he said the blogger should not abuse freedom of speech.
"Blogging doesn't mean you can write untruth. Freedom of speech doesn't mean you can lie," he added.-Mkini
