Political cartoonist Zunar, claims police seizures of his work has cost him RM51,000.
Zunar, or his full name Zulkiflee Anwar Ulhaque, said the artwork police seized from his exhibition in Penang three weeks ago was worth RM21,000.
He lost an estimated RM30,000 after police seized about 1,000 comic books from his fundraiser in Kuala Lumpur yesterday, he said.
In light of this, the cartoonist is now organising a donation drive to continue his work.
"I need your support to carry on to draw 'Cartoons for the People'," Zunar said, adding details for donations can be found on his website.
Zunar and four others were detained by the police during his fundraising event yesterday, before being released later at night.
The fundraiser was meant to cope with the losses he incurred after Penang police arrested him and seized his work three weeks earlier for holding an exhibition on cartoons that allegedly insulted Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak.
The Penang arrest came a day after his exhibition in Komtar was thrashed by Penang Umno members led by state Youth chief Rafizal Abdul Rahim.
Police said the Penang Umno members are also investigated.- Mkini
