UMNO AGM Umno is the most tolerant party and Malays are big-hearted enough to forgive past aggressions by the Thais, Chinese and Indians, says an Umno man.
Kelantan Umno delegate Mohd Syahbuddin Hashim said the Thais had in the past attacked Kedah and killed and tortured many Malays.
Similarly he said, Indian king Rajendra Chola had attacked Kedah Tua, while the Chinese had betrayed the Malays by siding with the Portuguese during their conquest of Malacca.
"But now there are many Thai villages in Kedah and also in Kelantan.
"Indians live in peace, and there is no vengeance in the heart of Malays.
"Today the Chinese descendants live peacefully in Malaysia," Mohd Syahbuddin told delegates at the Umno annual general assembly today.
However he said now there was a new traitorous threat, in the form of DAP, which he said was against Islam and the Malays.
He hoped that non-Malay BN component parties would not be traitors as well and work together with Umno to defend the BN government.
"Trust me, if the government falls, there's no guarantee we can come back to power even within seven generations," the Kelantan Umno man said.
DAP had re-emerged as Umno's number one enemy in this year's annual assembly.
On Wednesday, Umno Youth vice-chief Khairul Azwan Harun warned that the Chinese might be further alienated if they continued to support DAP.
The day after, Umno president and Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak said Malay rights would be eroded should a DAP-led opposition come to power.-- Mkini
