Bersih: It's NRD's fault for allowing voters to use office address

Electoral reform group Bersih is of the opinion that the case of Johor Menteri Besar Khaled Nordin and DAP lawmaker Teresa Kok using the address of their respective service centres to register as voters is the “same issue”.
The movement’s chairperson Maria Chin Abdullah however said the fault lies with the National Registration Department (NRD) for registering the MyKads in question.
“The Election Commission (EC) should also have a clear standard operating procedure not to accept voters with office addresses,” she told Malaysiakini.
According to Regulation 15 of the National Registration Regulations 1990 (Amendment 2007), the MyKad address must be a place of residence.
And Form A, which is to be filled by those wishing to change their address on the voter list, under Regulation 12 of the Elections (Registration of Electors) Regulations 2002, stipulate that the address must be the same as the MyKad address.
Although Khaled and Kok’s cases were somewhat similar, Bersih however viewed Khaled’s case more seriously.
“The reason Bersih is concerned is that we want to get rid of situations where one venue has 10 to 20 voters being registered.
“This was our criticism of the bad intention of Khaled where he shifted voters,” added Maria.
DAP’s Mengkibol state assemblyperson Tan Hong Pin on Sunday lodged a complaint to the EC regarding hundreds of suspicious voters in Johor, including Khaled.
According to EC records, Khaled and dozens of others are voters associated with the address of the Pasir Gudang Umno division's headquarters at Jalan Tembusu, Taman Rinting, Johor.
Khaled however denied being one of the dubious voters as alleged by the state Pakatan Harapan.
He also insisted that there was nothing wrong with registering as a voter using an office address.
Pasir Gudang Umno assistant secretary Noor Azleen Ambros had then questioned why Tan was critical of Khaled’s voter details when Kok had also used the address of her service centre to register as a voter.
According to EC records, the former Kinrara state assemblyperson is a registered voter at a commercial centre in Taman Kinrara Seksyen 3, Selangor, although the Kinrara DAP service centre has since been relocated.

Confirming that she had used her former office address for her voter records, Kok however insisted that she had not committed a crime as she was not involved in the illegal moving of voters.
"According to the EC's rules, we need to be registered according to the address on the MyKad but it doesn't mean I have to sleep there,” she had said.
Tan had also insisted that his complaint to the EC was valid and that Khaled’s case was different because “it made no sense to have 40 voters registered to one address”.- Mkini
