MUKTAMAR | Leadership by secular elements have led to the people's oppression and suffering, PAS deputy spiritual leader Ahmad Yaakob said.
This is why PAS needs to work hard to ensure Islamic leadership in the nation, Ahmad, who is also Kelantan menteri besar, added.
"Secular policies have caused people's suffering in the forms of oppression and cruelty.
"What we fear is that the fall of a nationalist secular government would pave the way for a secular socialist government and if that happens, PAS will have to take 60 years to topple that secular socialist government to replace it with an Islamic government.
"There is no point toppling the government today if the one to replace it is a socialist one. So I hope you understand the demands of our times and be fully prepared," Ahmad said when officiating the PAS Ulama wing’s general assembly at Sekolah Rendah Darul Ulum in Alor Setar today.
While he did not say it explicitly, he is belived to be referring to the DAP, which describes itself as a secular, social democratic party.
Ulama will be the 'jet power'
Despite being at loggerheads since the break-up of Pakatan Rakyat in 2015, PAS and DAP are still part of the Selangor government, along with PKR.
Confident in winning Kedah, with ulama as 'jet power'
Ahmad also said PAS is confident of wresting Kedah from BN in the next general election, on the back of the strength of its ulama in the northen state.
"We see Kedah PAS has a strong foundation, with the ulama playing their role. I am confident Kedah will return to PAS," he said.
The Kelantan menteri besar said the strength of the ulama is a factor in PAS' multi-term rule in Kelantan.
"I am confident that with this spirit, we will be able to maintain Kelantan and face any challenges from those who try to spread negative perceptions to topple the PAS government of Kelantan.
"The ulama will be the jet power to drive the Youth wing on the right and the Muslimat wing on the left.
"If we can drive our agenda, then we will be able to forge success in GE14," Ahmad added.- Mkini
