PVATM: Military veterans must support gov't

Malaysian Armed Forces veterans in the country should stand firm and continue to give full support to the government, says Malaysian Armed Forces Veterans Association (PVATM) deputy president Sharuddin Omar.
He said the veterans should continue to hold on to the principles of strengthening and defending both the country and government despite the fact that they were now no longer in service.
"We (the veterans) must continue to hold on to the principle that we are always loyal to the current government. We must remain firm and strong (in supporting the government).

"We have fought for the country and government while in service... We need to continue holding on to the principle even when we have left the service," he told reporters after officially opening the 36th annual delegates conference of Sabah PVATM today.
Also present was Sabah PVATM president Zaman Bayang.
Sharuddin also reminded all veterans not to be influenced by any quarters trying to destabilise the country.
In the meantime, he also urged the veterans to maintain solidarity as it was the key strength of the 95-year-old association, as well as ensure that PVATM would remain relevant in the welfare and well-being of its members.
The association has almost 160,000 members with 246 branches nationwide.
