DAP MP: Does the gov't still consider Dr M as 'bapa pemodenan'?

Since crossing over the political divide in his twilight years, Dr Mahathir Mohamad has come under intense attack from those who once revered him.
This prompted a DAP lawmaker to wonder if the government had stripped the former premier of his Bapa Pemodenan Malaysia (Father of Modernisation) title.
Segambut MP Lim Lip Eng posed the question to the Education Ministry since school textbooks described Mahathir as such.
In a written parliamentary response, the ministry said there has been no change to Mahathir's status in this aspect.
“Textbooks by the Education Ministry are written based on curriculum documents and true facts which occurred during the relevant time or period.
“The fact (Mahathir being 'bapa pemodenan') is still relevant and is maintained (in the textbooks),” he added.
Mahathir was the fourth prime minister of Malaysia, and is credited with putting the nation on the world map during his 22 years in office.
The 92-year-old politician is now the chairperson of the opposition coalition Pakatan Harapan and is hell bent on removing Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak from power.
Mahathir is also adamant on bringing an end to BN and Umno's unbroken rule since independence, claiming that the coalition has become rotten to the core.

Since the gloves came off, the prime minister and his supporters have pointed out how Mahathir's tenure as prime minister was replete with corruption, cronyism and abuse of power.
A Royal Commission of Inquiry (RCI) has been set up to probe Bank Negara's foreign exchange losses during the 1980s when Mahathir was prime minister.
The commission is tasked with establishing if parliament and cabinet were deliberately misled over the matter.- Mkini
