Buy a PPR flat for RM75,000? It's a scam

IF BEING told that you can own a People’s Housing Projects (PPR) flat in Jinjang Selatan Tamabahan, Kuala Lumpur for just RM75,000 sounds too good to be true, that's because it is.
In fact, this an old scam that has now resurfaced after first making the rounds in 2015.
Kepong MP Lim Lip Eng, who called for a press conference to highlight the matter, urged the public not to be duped by this bogus deal.
“I received complaints from residents about such a deal being advertised in Facebook last week, so we investigated it.
.“We discovered that it was the same modus operandi as that used three years ago.
“There are bogus agents who (purport to) sell PPR units in Jinjang Selatan Tambahan that are meant for squatters who lived in Jinjang Selatan Tambahan.
“The PPR is yet to be built, and the project is on one of the 64 plots of questionable land deals that I highlighted previously,” he said.
Lim warned the culprits to stop cheating the public as he would be bringing in the police and Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) to investigate the matter.
“This time, I asked my assistants to act as potential buyers, and they were told that the units cost RM42,000. They were also asked to pay a 10% deposit and an extra RM33,000 as an under-the-table deal to get the PPR units.
“The culprits also lied to my assistants that I had personally approved the project.
“I wouldn't allow anyone to own these PPR units, except the squatters who are supposed to relocate to there,” he said.
Lim explained that he had exposed a similar scam in 2015 by asking his assistants to pose as potential buyers.
“My assistants were also led to a law firm in Kepong to go through the legal process. In the end, three were detained, and I was told by MACC that investigation is still ongoing until now,” he added.
At the press conference, videos and pictures of their undercover investigation were shown to the press.
The PPR flats advertised consist eight 20-storey blocks with a total of 320 PPR units.
Each 59.45sqm units is to be equipped with 2+1 bedroom and two bathroom. - Star
