A Kelantan assemblyperson from Umno will join Bersatu on Sunday, paving the way for a Pakatan Harapan representative in the state legislative assembly.
According to a Bersatu source, the assemblyperson would be accompanied by a large group of Umno members from the constituency.
"He would be accompanied by former Umno division office-bearers and grassroots activists," said the source.
An event to mark the lawmaker's entry to Bersatu is expected to take place in Machang on Sunday at 1pm.
Bersatu deputy president Mukhriz Mahathir is expected to be at the event.
When contacted, Kelantan opposition leader Mohd Alwi Che Ahmad said he was unaware of such a move.
"No comment. As far as I know, there’s no such thing," said the Kok Lanas assemblyperson.
Should the defection take place, the event on Sunday would see a fourth Umno lawmaker officially leaving the party since the May 9 elections.
Thus far, Umno has lost three MPs - Noor Azmi Ghazali (Bagan Serai), Ermieyati Samsudin (Masjid Tanah) and Syed Abu Hussin Hafiz Syed Abdul Fasal (Bukit Gantang).
All three are sitting under the independent bloc in the Dewan Rakyat.
In the May 9 general elections, Harapan component parties failed to win a single seat in Terengganu and Kelantan at both the state and parliamentary levels. - Mkini
