PAS will allow its members to vote for any party in the Sungai Kandis by-election.
"We are open," party deputy president Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man said briefly when asked which candidate PAS members should vote for.
The by-election on Aug 4 will see a three-cornered clash between PKR's Zawawi Ahmad Mughni, BN's Lokman Noor Adam and independent candidate K Murthy.
The Sungai Kandis state seat fell vacant upon the death of incumbent assemblyperson Mat Shuhaimi Shafiei early this month due to complications from lymphoma.
On May 9, Shuhaimi obtained 23,998 votes to win the Malay-majority seat, defeating BN's Kamaruzzaman Johar (11,518), PAS' Mohd Yusof Abdullah (7,573) and PRM's Hanafiah Husin (76).
Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad has previously labelled PAS and BN as "siblings" in the issue of fielding candidates in the by-election.
However, PAS secretary-general Takiyuddin Hassan has said that the Islamist party's non-contest in Sungai Kandis does not mean that it would work with Umno.
He further urged PAS members to choose in the interest of Malay and Islam, when casting their votes on Aug 4.
PAS central committee member Nik Abduh Nik Aziz, earlier today, cited five reasons on why he believes his party wants its members to vote for Umno in the election. - Mkini
