Jeli voters have expressed their disappointment with their parliamentarian Mustapa Mohamed by covering up his face on a billboard in the constituency.
A piece of paper had been used to obscure Mustapa's face in the picture of him standing next to former prime minister Najib Abdul Razak on a billboard, reported Sinar Harian today.
This comes after Mustapa announced he was joining Bersatu last Friday, making him the first Umno MP to do so.
At the same time, his decision to join Bersatu has been criticised on a Facebook page for Jeli residents, as a form of betrayal against them.
Some have also claimed that Mustapa, who is also the Air Lanas assemblyperson, had acted in self-interest when he joined the Umno splinter party.
There are those who are also urging the former Jeli Umno chief to vacate his parliament and state assembly seats as he won them on the Umno ticket in the last general election.
However, there are those who are also defending Mustapa, saying that he had contributed a lot to the development of Jeli.
The former international trade and industries minister, who had been in Umno for 40 years, had announced he was leaving Umno last month.
He said this was because he believed the party's current direction was "no longer in line" with his political principles and that there had not been "significant efforts to rejuvenate the party". - Mkini
