Alleged tampering of 1MDB report: Najib, Arul mention put off to April 5

The Sessions Court in Kuala Lumpur has set April 5 for the mention of former prime minister Najib Abdul Razak and former 1MDB chief executive Arul Kanda's case over the alleged tampering of the company's audit report.

Sessions Judge Azura Alwi set the new date today upon a request by the prosecution, who had made an application to transfer the case to a higher court.
Deputy public prosecutor Amir Nasruddin told the court that submissions of related documents to all parties in the case had also been done yesterday.
"Today was set for the case mention for submission of documents. All the documents had been passed to all parties yesterday.
"We (prosecution) want to inform the court that we had filed (application) to transfer the case, and we need a new date for case mention after knowing whether our application to transfer to the High Court is allowed or otherwise.
"I believe the date (should be set) in a month (from today)," he told the court.
The judge then allowed the request after the defence said they have no objection for the new mention date.
Najib and Arul, who were both present in the court, would be jointly tried over the alleged tampering after Azura on Jan 4 granted the prosecution's request to have a joint trial.
Najib and Arul were initially charged separately on Dec 12 last year at the Kuala Lumpur Sessions Court in relation to the alleged tampering of the 1MDB audit report.

Najib was charged with receiving gratification in the form of protection from ethical, civil or criminal actions against him as a public officer in relation to 1MDB, by ordering the alteration of the final audit report before it was presented to the Public Accounts Committee (PAC).
The offence was allegedly committed by Najib between Feb 22 and 26, 2016, at the Prime Minister’s Department in Putrajaya.
Arul, meanwhile, was charged with abetting Najib in the offence, on the same day and time. - Mkini
