CORONAVIRUS | University of Malaya Medical Centre (UMMC) in Selangor has not been put under a lockdown, says hospital director Tunku Zamarul Zaman.
Refuting rumours being spread on text messages, Tunku Zamarul said there were no "lockdown, shut down or declaration of disaster" by the hospital.
"It is true we have Covid-19 positive patients in UMMC and they are receiving treatment, as declared by the prime minister himself.
"It is also true that there are very sick patients we are taking care of in UMMC. But I assure everyone that for now, conditions are manageable and it is under control," wrote Tunku Zamarul on his Facebook page yesterday.
Several Malaysiakini staff had received similar messages mentioned by Tunku Zamarul over the past 24 hours.
Tunku Zamarul said rumour mongers are doing more harm than good and urged the public to report offenders to the authorities.
"I urge everyone to help the authorities, help us to combat this virus effectively and not make the situation worse for this nation," he said.
As of yesterday evening, Malaysia recorded 238 cases of Covid-19 infection.
The virus has claimed at least 5,612 lives worldwide. No deaths have been recorded in Malaysia. - Mkini
