Eight arrested in Petaling Jaya for breaching MCO

Malaysiakini

CORONAVIRUS | A restaurant owner and three foreigners were among eight people arrested in Petaling Jaya yesterday for violating the government's movement control order (MCO).
In a series of operations which include roadblocks and patrols in Taman Medan, police officers tasked to monitor MCO compliance had also encountered ridiculous excuses given by some who could not produce valid reason when asked why they were not staying home.
"One of the excuses we heard tonight was from someone we stopped at our roadblock in PJS 2.
"He said he was out of the house because he wanted to fetch his girlfriend," said officer Affendy Mohamad Nor from the Petaling Jaya district police headquarters.
Affendy, who was the raiding officer in charge of the operation, said they also encountered a driver who claimed that he was working in the IT sector but could not produce any evidence or letter from his employer.
Two Myanmar and a China national were also picked up after they failed to give valid reasons for breaching the MCO.
The restaurant owner, who appeared to be in his 60s, was detained after his premises in Taman Medan was found to be operating after midnight. Under the MCO regulations, eateries, food stall and restaurants are only allowed to be open from 6am to midnight.
Also picked up was his cook and a helper, both local men in their 40s and 30s.
According to Affendy, all of them were taken to the district police headquarters to facilitate investigations. - Mkini
