Sepanggar MP contributes entire month's salary for those in need

Malaysiakini

CORONAVIRUS | Warisan’s Sepanggar lawmaker Azis Jamman is contributing all of his March MP salary to help buy essential goods for people in need in his constituency who are affected by the coronavirus outbreak.
"Out of sympathy and my intention to ease their plights, I am contributing my MP salary for this month and the following month for as long as there is the movement control order (MCO) to buy food and daily needs which will be donated to those badly affected (by the current situation)," Azis (pictured, above) said in a statement.
The Sabah lawmaker further opined that he did not deserve the salary as he is unable to carry out his MP duties and unable to visit villages in Sepanggar throughout the duration of the order, which began last Wednesday.
"I feel like it's unfair for me to use the salary for myself and my family.
"It's more reasonable for the salary to be channelled to those in need," he said.
Azis added that Sabah Chief Minister Mohd Shafie Apdal is expected to announce the economic stimulus package in the near future.
"I hope the package will help the Sabahans from further being affected by the Covid-19 outbreak."
He also called on corporates and private entities to help contribute food and daily necessities to the people in Sepanggar.
Those put in charge for the donation arrangement are Raini (010-5472921), Redzwan (014-6787800), Jasni (016-8406511), and Hadi Murba (0111-0231002). - Mkini
