GPS leaders stand behind Muhyiddin amid lobbying from Harapan

Malaysiakini

GPS leaders said the Sarawak-based coalition is behind Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin amid reports of lobbying from Pakatan Harapan.
PRS president James Masing (above) said he was not informed about an alleged trip by PKR president Anwar Ibrahim to Sarawak in order to lobby GPS.
"GPS is behind Muhyiddin," James was quoted as saying by The Star.
Meanwhile, PBB's Santubong MP Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar indicated that Sarawak Chief Minister Abang Johari Openg would consult GPS leaders if there were such overtures.
“One thing I know, Abang Johari is a very inclusive leader. He practises inclusivity and collective responsibility.
“Most of his major decisions were made in full discussions with various GPS leaders, MPs and assemblypersons," he was quoted as saying in The Star's report.
He added that GPS components were also consulted when they decided to support Muhyiddin.
“We had enough of the uncertainty and unstable government," Wan Junaidi added.
GPS is comprised of four component parties, namely PBB, SUPP, PRS and PDP. They have 18 MPs.
DAP and Amanah claimed Anwar had made a "last-ditch" effort to convince GPS to support Harapan and his candidacy for prime minister but failed.
Therefore, the Harapan allies had urged Anwar to consider disputed Bersatu chairperson Dr Mahathir Mohamad as the prime ministerial candidate.
Supporters have argued that Mahathir is more palatable to the East Malaysia bloc which is critical in forming any majority in the Dewan Rakyat. - Mkini
