PETALING JAYA: Convenience stores and food outlets can now operate until midnight, says Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob.
He, however, added that 24-hour convenience stores or food outlets will no longer be allowed to operate around the clock, and have to close at midnight as well.
The Senior Minister said the government received requests from restaurants, stalls and 24-hour convenience store operators who are currently only allowed to operate until 10pm.
"So, the special ministerial meeting has agreed for restaurants, stalls and convenient stores to operate until 12am.
"However, the social distancing rule and standard operating procedures (SOPs) must be observed," he said in his daily briefing on Tuesday (June 9).
He also announced that surau at shopping malls and rest and recreation (R&R) areas will be allowed to open beginning Wednesday (June 10).
He said the opening of these surau are based on the SOP set.
Ismail Sabri, who is also the Defence Minister, said those who want to perform their prayers at the surau need to practise self-discipline and social distancing rules.
He said all shops at R&R areas are also allowed to operate.
Ismail Sabri said the special meeting had also received application from Zoo Negara, together with other zoo operators in the country.
He said Zoo Negara and other zoo operators had come up with their own SOP, with the hope in reopening the zoos.
"Based on that, zoos now will be allowed to operate from June 10 onwards based on the SOPs set," he added. - Star
