The daily Covid-19 update press conference by Defence Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob will be reduced to three times a week on Monday, Wednesday and Friday beginning tomorrow.
In announcing the update today, Ismail (above) quipped that after 89 days, viewers will no longer see his colourful batik shirts, which will be reserved only for weekend appearances.
"I would like to inform that today will be the last day I appear live every day. And today is also the last day I will go live on a weekend.
"Maybe after this there will be no more colourful batik shirts that have been an inspiration for your desserts and drinks," he said.
Ismail previously explained he had chosen a random batik shirt from his collection one day but keen-eyed netizens saw a likeness to local delicacies and compiled a series of images which went viral.
Ismail at the time also commended netizens for their creativity to compare his shirt designs to desserts such as Sarawak kek lapis, avocado shake, rainbow jelly and Oreo trifle, among others.
"I would also like to record my appreciation to all parties involved in fighting Covid-19, particularly frontliners on duty, including the media," he added today.
As the senior minister in charge of security cluster, Ismail's duties include chairing a daily ministers meeting and their decisions will be updated or clarified at the press conference.
After more than three months of being a constant fixture for many during the Covid-19 pandemic, Health Ministry director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah yesterday similarly said his press conference will cease to be a daily affair from next week.
Malaysia first enforced the movement control order (MCO) on March 18 and this has been gradually relaxed over several phases leading up to the recovery MCO from June 10 to Aug 31. - Mkini
