CORONAVIRUS | A social media post by the Israel military that it has transferred over a million face masks and disposable gloves from Malaysia to Palestine has garnered the attention of Malaysians.
In a Facebook posting last month, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) stated that one million face masks and 500,000 disposable gloves had been donated by Malaysian authorities, along with 100 electric hospital beds by Saudi Arabia.
These were then transferred to Palestine by the Coordination of Government Activities in the Territories (Cogat) - a unit under Israel Defence Ministry which coordinates and liaises with the Palestinian authorities.
Although the post was uploaded on May 15, it has recently caught the attention on Malaysian netizens who have been sharing it over the past two days.
Malaysia is the world’s leading producer of rubber gloves. In January, the then Pakatan Harapan government donated 18 million medical gloves to China as part of global effort to contain the coronavirus outbreak.
Malaysiakini has contacted the Foreign Affairs Ministry for further details on the donation. - Mkini
