Shafie Apdal May Be Quizzed By MACC, Say Sources

(Focus Malaysia) – Sabah Chief Minister and Warisan founder Mohd Shafie Apdal is expected to be questioned over the alleged abuse of RM1.5 bil meant for rural development projects, sources say.
An official from the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) told FocusM that he could not confirm at the time of writing whether Shafie would be called in for questioning.
Shafie was arrested on Oct 19, 2017, for allegedly siphoning RM1.5 bil between 2009 and 2015 when he was rural and regional development minister.
He was remanded for eight days and released on Oct 27 on bail of RM100,000 with RM80,000 deposited with two local sureties.
He was cleared of the charges on Aug 28, 2018. Then legal affairs minister Liew Vui Keong said the case was closed as there was insufficient evidence for further action.
Earlier today, Shafie’s general and Warisan deputy president Peter Anthony was called in by MACC to give his statement over the RM155 mil graft case involving a Rubber Industry Smallholders Development Authority (Risda) land deal in 2014.
Peter, who was investigated for the case in 2016 and 2017, was a businessman when the deal was made between Risda and a private company in 2014.
He is also a strong supporter of Shafie.
